Biography
Born in 1954, Lebanese-German artist Emmanuel Guiragossian obtained a scholarship in 1974 and attended the Hochshule fur Bildende Kunst in Dresden-Germany under professors Gerhard Kettner, Siegfried Klotz and Juan Leon. There, he built close friendships with several renowned contemporary artists such as A.R.Penk and worked with them. Emmanuel specialized in Artistic Anatomy and graduated with honours in 1979. He became a professor at the Academie Libanaise de Beaux Arts (ALBA) and the American University of Beirut (AUB) until 1984. At the same time, Emmanuel founded his publishing house EMMAGOSS and published the first book ever made on Paul Guiragossian’s work in 1983. From then on he actively worked on several solo exhibitions around the world while residing between Beirut, Germany, Canada and Jordan and published several art books including the Biography of Palestinian – Jordanian banker and founder of the Arab Bank, Khaled Shoman followed by a book on the art of Soha Shoman. He also published books on other artists such as Iranian – American artist Marcus Grigorian and poet Peggy Abi Jaber among others.
Currently Emmanuel is based between Lebanon and Germany. In Lebanon he established the Emmanuel Paul Guiragossian Museum where he works and curates exhibitions to emerging as well as established artists in a massive space in Jdeidet El Metn, Lebanon. He also founded a second art gallery Emmagoss in Germany since 2007 where works of contemporary German artists such as A.R. Penk and Marcus Lupertz have been exhibited with the presence of the artists.
